PRIMAVERA SOUND WILL TAKE OVER THE CIUTAT VELLA AND GOTHIC QUARTER NEIGHBOURHOODS WITH AN EXTENSIVE OFFER OF FREE ACTIVITIES
The Barcelona neighbourhood of the Born will become the nerve centre of Primavera a la Ciutat and will welcome a large number of the ever-expanding complementary free activities of the festival. From the weekend before the main days in the Parc del Fòrum, this emblematic area and its surroundings will bring together innumerable free activities: from live music in the Parc de la Ciutadella and in La Botiga del Primavera Sound to music films in the Maldà not to mention the PrimaveraPro days and showcases in different venues such as Convent de Sant Agusti and La Seca – Espai Brossa. Since its beginnings, Primavera a la Ciutat has aimed to bring music to all audiences and to extend the “Primavera” spirit to other venues in the Catalan capital during the celebration of the event.
From Friday 30th May till Sunday 1st June Els Vermuts del Primavera amb Martini will liven up Parc de la Ciutadella, a morning, outdoor activity that aims to offer a festival moment for everybody to enjoy the music and the green areas of the city with family and friends. In the programme international bands such as Dum Dum Girls, The Twilight Sad, The Mark Eitzel Ordeal and the Boogarins from Brazil stand out along with other noteworthy artists who will perform in both the Parc del Fòrum and Parc de la Ciutadella. These include: La Sera, Majical Cloudz, Hospitality, Speedy Ortiz and Caveman. The local and national scene will also be well represented by Coriolà, Berlinist, Renaldo & Clara, Ceremoney and Flamaradas, amongst others, and PrimaveraPro will participate by organising concerts by bands such as Natas Loves You, LNRipley and Say Yes Dog. Minimúsica will once again move its child-centred activities to this central park where the Cantabrian band Templeton will perform their own particular version of the original tracks from the successful irreverent children’s series “Adventure Time”.
With the aim of opening up to the general public, PrimaveraPro will flood the area of the Born with a programme of free activities for all music-lovers, as well as its usual conferences and exclusive meetings for professionals from the sector in the new headquarters in the Convent de Sant Agustí. Venues such as the Born Centre Cultural, La Seca – Espai Brossa and the restaurant El Foro will host, during the daytime, a large number of proposals open to the public such as showcases by newcomer bands from different participating countries including Brazil, Chile, Italy, Israel, Luxembourg, the Baltic States, Poland and Valencia (Spain) and the First International Ideas Competition and Investment Forum in the Music Industry organised jointly with Seed&Click
Moreover, the city-centre Maldà cinema will show films, totally free of charge, about music with In-Edit that will be part of the Primavera a la Ciutat for the fourth consecutive year. The documentary cinema festival that started in Barcelona in 2003, offers the possibility to enjoy music from a cinema perspective. At this edition there will be a total of four films screening in the weekend before the festival in the evening: “The Punk Singer”, “Charles Bradley: Soul of America”, “Lou Reed’s Berlin” and a fourth still to be confirmed.
